Feeling Lost in Life?

Here are some tips I give you to overcome your anxieties.

I am writing this as a genuine way to express the way I feel (feelings that at certain moments during my day and week I have), but with these words my purpose is mainly to reach out people who have been or are going through the same obstacles as I do:

  • Seeing how others succeed in life mainly through social media and then we compare ourselves with them and thus we feel we have “barely” accomplished something.
  • We wonder what we could if we had that million dollars in our pocket to pay everything off.
  • We know we have to do something in order to get what we want, but we do not find that motivation and that force to keep us moving forward.
  • We feel we are the only ones in this world that are feeling “useless” or “unable” to accomplish what we want.

Any of these ideas sound familiar to you?

In my case, all of them used to and even still apply.

See, we all want to feel we have accomplished something in life, to have this sense of fulfilling a purpose before we die; that we felt we’ve contributed to something bigger than ourselves. But sometimes we perceive there´s no scape and that we are just born to live in a mediocre way, or what we were “built” to live the 9 to 5 boring and unfulfilling job…

Life is tough indeed, and as years have passed by, we realize we have “not” accomplished anything worth.

We all hear we need to find purpose, to be successful in our own ways and to live fully every day, but how?

Well, with this post my genuine intention is to help you giving the push and motivation you need to realize that really it is never too late to keep going. Here are my simple but powerful tips I can 100% suggest you, which have served me well every time I feel down or unmotivated:

My 12 Tips:

  • Add the word “yet” to any sentence you say in a negative way.
    1. For example: Instead of saying to yourself: I can’t travel or I do not have enough X experience, say instead: I can’t travel yet or I do not have experience yet.
    2. Using this simple word, helps our subconscious mind to understand that there is always a possibility to get that we want, and lessens the negative effect of a sentence to a more hopeful one.
  • Do not compare yourself with others, but only yourself.
  • Focus on the path, not the obstacles.
    1. Video about Simon Sinek that explains this deeper:

  • Simon Sinek, a fantastic leader we at Vagalost admire says: “DO NOT reinforce the negative”. The human brain cannot comprehend what is negative or positive. “I can’t do this” VS “I am going to keep doing this. Literally everything is perspective.”
  • Go and reward yourself! Why not maybe going for that dessert you love or that treat at the coffee shop you like the most. Rewarding yourself powers you up.
  • As simple as giving yourself a pat on our back is enough to know that everything is going to be alright! I personally do this right before getting to bed, recalling all the successes and efforts I did throughout the day. Say to yourself: “Do not worry, everything is going to be ok. I got this.” While giving yourself a pat on the back.
  • Related to the previous idea about patting yourself on your back, every time I accomplish something, even as small as being able to make that call we were afraid of, or taking to the girl/boy we like, literally congratulate yourself with your inner voice and tell yourself: “You did it! Great job!” This may sound silly at first, but the impact it has on ourselves is immense.
  • Find and live your Why!
    1. If you have found your Why or if you know your purpose in life, then recall those moments whenever you are doing the walk outside or whenever you feel comfortable/relaxed.
    2. If you do not know what a “Why” is and want to know more about it, take a look to my article “What is a Why?”.
  • It is completely normal, to feel down or unmotivated sometimes. What I do in these situations are 3 things:
    1. Recognize that it’s normal to feel like so (we cannot be 100% motivated all the time like machines.)
    2. Do some exercise. Even a simple walk for 10 minutes outside, make our blood to run faster and thus clarifies and relaxes our mind.
    3. Write down or journal it: why are you actually feeling like that? When you define how and why you feel the way you feel you become present and becomes easier to get these negative emotions away from us (I am currently learning German, so what a nice way to practice journaling while writing that down in my target language; I am practicing another language at the same time.)
  • Before you go to bed, always, always take a few minutes off of everything, find yourself in a quiet and relaxing moment and place and be thankful for what you currently have, what you’ve accomplished today (even if you felt down all day long, a great success to recognize at this point is the simple fact of reading this article or even better, doing a great effort to apply any of these tips I give you.
  • Do not focus on what you cannot do, instead something you can and love doing: any hobbies that you have that you may need to retake?
  • Affordable Little Steps: what is the next small step that you can do to advance your goal, and which is within your financial reach? Remember: Consistency is more powerful than Intensity.
  • Have goals. As we are true travel adventurers, we always have as a motivation, when and where our next trip adventure will take place. I personally envision myself already living that moment. I feel that moment so deep, that it looks so real in my mind.

At Vagalost we want to live life in our own terms, in our own Freedom. We imagine a world where the vast majority can do what they love consistently, while chasing adventures on Earth & space and at the same time feeling fulfilled for pursuing something bigger than themselves.
